Laurence Scales (Laurence's Walks)
Surprising life stories, strange adventures, startling achievements and forgotten by-ways of history are my passion, especially around science and invention. I am also fascinated by the conjunction of ingenuity and science used in the world of secret intelligence.
I have been leading London tours and giving talks since 2008. I have contributed articles to Londonist.com and the Royal Institution blog. I am an archive volunteer at the Royal Institution and Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, and a volunteer guide for the London Canal Museum's towpath walks. I have twice set the annual 'pub quiz' for the British Library's Talk Science programme. I have been featured on BBC Radio London.
I am a specialist but my tours have wide appeal. They feature unusual and entertaining social history and oddity rather than technical detail. My tours cover subjects that others do not and vice versa, providing an alternative and sometimes offbeat view of London. For general information, terms and conditions, mobility aspects etc, please visit my website.
